BreakAway Data and NWSLPA Partner to Empower Players with Personalized Athlete Data

App Enhances Player Autonomy, Enabling NWSL Players to Monitor Performance, Recovery, and Training Metrics

More than 200 NWSL players have already enrolled in the app

Los Angeles, July 25, 2023 – BreakAway Data and the National Women’s Soccer League Players Association (NWSLPA) have teamed up to give players access to comprehensive data through the BreakAway mobile app. This partnership empowers players by granting them greater access to their performance data, thereby driving health, safety, and innovation in women's soccer.

The app allows NWSL players to analyze their performance, recovery, and return from injuries by assimilating data from games, practices, and training sessions. It provides a centralized platform for players to track game stats, practice data, and training metrics, including GPS, sensors, biomechanics, wearables, and more.

"Our partnership with BreakAway empowers world-class players with control over their own data, unlocking performance insights, improving recovery, and prolonging careers,” said Meghann Burke, Executive Director of the NWSLPA.

BreakAway, founded in 2020 by former NFL player Dave Anderson and coach Steve Gera, leverages a multitude of athlete centric products and integrations to drive insights for players. Anderson, a wide receiver with a notable career including the Houston Texans, was a pioneer in wearable device tracking in the league. Both he and Gera, a former U.S. Marine and coach from the San Diego Chargers and Cleveland Browns, have been at the forefront of athlete innovation for a decade.

"The BreakAway app is the modern way for athletes to gain a profound understanding of themselves. Putting athletes in control of their data is not only the right thing to do, but it's also the smartest,” said Dave Anderson, Co-founder of BreakAway.

“We’re thrilled to be pioneering alongside the NWSLPA,” said Gera. “Helping players across the globe in the world’s most popular sport is exciting, and though we have Premier League players and clubs backing this movement already this is a historic milestone and a testament to the vision and leadership at NWSLPA and the players themselves. They wanted this, we’re simply listening and acting.”

BreakAway offers a suite of products for athletes, clubs, leagues and associations. The company’s mission is to ensure all athletes have their data to be the best they can be.

The NWSLPA represents active players in the NWSL. OneTeam Partners, which is the exclusive licensing partner of the NWSLPA, manages and commercializes the group rights for all players, and it facilitated the partnership.
