Great Britain runs on BreakAway. Here is what that actually means.

Flag football went global before its record did. The sport has an Olympic date, a World Championship with 32 national teams, and a broadcast audience in the tens of millions. What it does not have is a performance record that travels. Every federation solves stats locally, in its own format, and almost none of it follows the athlete or the program to the next tournament. An athlete can compete at a World Championship and walk away with nothing they can carry into the next one.

In March 2026, one federation decided to stop living that way.

What BAFA signed up for.

The British American Football Association partnered with BreakAway to power Great Britain's Elite Flag Football Performance Programme ahead of the 2026 IFAF World Championships in Dusseldorf. Not a sponsorship, an operating decision: reporting, evaluation, scouting, and performance insight for the national program, built on the same infrastructure BreakAway runs for pro teams.

In practice, that means GB's coaching staff works with phone-based performance testing, game stats, and opponent breakdowns instead of memory and group texts. Selection conversations happen over numbers. Development conversations happen over trends. The staff can tell an athlete exactly where they stand, and exactly what moved since the last camp.

The pipeline nobody else can see.

There is a second half to the partnership that matters just as much as the analytics. BreakAway's network includes thousands of flag football athletes competing in leagues and tournaments across the United States and beyond, and some of them hold British eligibility. Before this partnership, finding those players meant luck and word of mouth. Now BAFA has a direct line: an athlete with British eligibility can share their performance record straight with the coaches building Great Britain's roster.

For a federation competing with the deepest talent pools in the world, that is not a nice-to-have. It is roster construction.

Then came Dusseldorf.

In August, the 2026 IFAF Flag Football World Championships doubled as the first Olympic qualifying tournament on the road to LA28. Sixteen men's teams, sixteen women's teams, medals and quota spots on the line. Great Britain competed with its program running on BreakAway.

BreakAway counted every game of the tournament, both draws, working from the broadcast, and published what the data showed. Team GB's staff had what every other federation in Dusseldorf mostly did not: their own tournament, on the record, in the same system that already holds their program's testing and season data.

That is the whole point of a record that travels. A camp in the spring, a friendly in June, and a World Championship in August all land in one place, and the program compounds instead of starting over every cycle.

What this means if you run a federation.

The sport is now genuinely global and genuinely competitive at the national level, and the programs that win the next cycle will be the ones that know what they have. The gap between watching your team and knowing your team is exactly the gap BAFA closed, and it took months, not years.

Great Britain got there first. The infrastructure is not exclusive.
