Flag football mercy rule by ruleset
It depends on the rulebook. NFL FLAG ends the game at a 35-point lead in leagues and 28 in tournaments. USA Flag ends it at 30. IFAF only keeps the clock running at 30 or more. High school leaves it to each state. We found no mercy rule in the college book.
Harbor Point Mariners 26, Desert Ridge Coyotes 02nd half3rd & 9 to midfieldBall on own 16
Example: USA Flag 5's, unknown level (treated as youth)
Up 26-0 in the 2nd half, Harbor Point threw a 34-yard touchdown on 3rd down. That made it 32-0.
Under USA Flag 5's rules, a 30-point lead ends the game right there. There was no try after the touchdown.
Watch: Calling halftime (0:29)A mercy rule keeps lopsided games from dragging on. It looks after the kids on both teams.

What each rulebook says, in our words, with the rule to check it against. A blank cell says why it is blank.
NFL FLAG 5v5

NFL FLAG One-Way Field makes no change here.
USA Flag 5's
5v5 · Leagues and tournaments, all ages

The game ends at a 30-point lead, with no try. The league clock rule also says a 30-point lead means a running clock.
NFHS (girls' high school)
7v7 · Sanctioned high school
The book has none. A state may set a lead that ends the game or starts a running clock.
Illinois HS (IHSA)
7v7 · Illinois girls' high school
A lead of 30 or more during the 3rd or 4th quarter starts a running clock. It runs for the rest of the game. It stops only for timeouts, quarter breaks and injuries.
IFAF Flag Football
5v5 · International play
No rule ends the game early. Lead by 30 or more when the two-minute notice comes, and the clock runs. That lasts for the rest of the half.
College Flag Football
7v7 · College, including NAIA women's
We found no mercy rule in this rulebook, so this is left blank.
High school: what each state chose
NFHS leaves this to each state association. These are the states whose documents BreakAway has read.
California (CIF)
A running clock once the margin passes 27 points in the fourth quarter, stopping only for team and officials' timeouts. The game is not ended.
Illinois (IHSA)
A lead of 30 or more during the 3rd or 4th quarter starts a running clock. It runs for the rest of the game.
North Carolina (NCHSAA)
If a team leads by 19 or more at the 4th quarter's two-minute timeout, the clock keeps running. Coaches may agree to end early.
Tennessee (TSSAA)
If a team leads by 19 or more at the 4th quarter's two-minute timeout, the clock keeps running. Coaches may agree to end early.
Maryland (MPSSAA)
A lead of 28 or more in the 2nd half starts a running clock. It stops only for injuries, timeouts and period ends. It also stops for a score that cuts the lead below 28.
